Difficulty Update and Bug Fixes - 2/6/2023


---DIFFICULTY CHANGES FOR ROUNDS 26 TO 40---

-Each round in 26-40 will randomly select a modifier to add to the round.  These will include health pickups or powerup pickups being removed, all ladders being iron or gold only, rounds where only one type of enemy will spawn, and boss attacks like lightning walls, beast globs, and mortar shots.

-These modifiers will only last for that round.  Every 5 rounds, there will be a boss, and a permanent increase to health or damage!

-These modifiers will be displayed, so you'll know what to expect! Also includes new secret text as well.

-There may also be a small chance one of these rounds will result in every kill dropping a pickup.

 

---DIFFICULTY CHANGES FOR ROUNDS 41 AND BEYOND---

-Each round after round 40 will select a specific PERMANENT upgrade to difficulty.  One modifier will be assigned each round: Increase in Enemy Health, then Increase in Special Enemy Spawn Rate, then Decrease in Pickup Drop Rate, then Increase in Enemy Damage, then upgrade a ladder to gold or iron.

-These modifiers happen in the above sequence, for 5 rounds.  This continues until round 65, after which, this will no longer occur.

-Bosses will also begin to spawn every 5 rounds, then every 4, 3, 2, then every round.  They spawn with all the regular enemies and ladders present as well!

-These modifiers will be displayed, so you'll know what to expect! Also includes new secret text as well.  Some text will display out to round 70.

 

---OTHER GAMEPLAY AND FUNCTIONALITY CHANGES---

-Shooty Tweaks:  Shooty's hitbox for single load cannon attack has been made smaller.

-Chickens will now have a 1 in 4 chance to give player 1 health when player kills them.

-Slowed down the Tank gnoll's swing animation to make it easier for player to dodge.

-Shifted the boss fight with the general on round 39 to round 40.  The Portal transition and all functions have been “shifted forward” respectively.

-Added in a delay to ladders spawning for the final General boss fight (Round 40).

-Made it so pickups you get when petting the Beast will last until next round.

 

---APPEARANCE CHANGES---

-Altered the descriptions of Potion of Less-Dying and Morginkoogle's Endless Stabbing to reflect change in functions in last build.

-Removed some debug text that would display to check for ladder bugs. 

-Added some additional secret text to encourage player to kill final boss or pick up sword.

-Added in a flash effect to the ladders when the mopup phase starts.

-Altered the appearance of “trees” in the round 41+ environment sprites.

-Made a visual revision to the dead gnoll piles round 41+.  They now have a more “frozen statue” appearance.

 

---BUG FIXES---

-Fixed bug where chicken's peck attack didn't trigger Smashy's reflect attack.

-Put in a constraint to prevent Beast from jumping too high during certain attacks.

-Fixed bug where Supertank health bar would not appear as soon as it becomes vulnerable.

-Fixed bug where reflect effect and sound would not display/play when doing a "blocked attack" on Supertank.  Now it always plays a “ping” sound with a small glinting flash.

-Remove player attack hitbox scaling for most attacks because it interfered with Supertank hitbox functions, and didn’t do much else in the first place. (For reference, some player attack hitboxes moved, but did this so quickly that the effect was essentially undetectable and didn’t effect gameplay decision making for the player)

-Fixed bug where Portal of Free Swag was not spawning pickups in the round after a boss fight.

-Made another attempt to fix bug where archmage doom orb will appear broken and in incorrect places.  Difficult to verify this worked, as the bug is difficult to recreate.

-Fixed Bug where Punchy's kicks knocked the General's corpse around.  Now his kicks simply finish off the General.  (Punchy would not do something so dishonorable, obviously.)

-Attempted to fix a bug where ladders were spawning gnolls while they were down and under arena.  Problem was difficult to replicate, but it seems to be fixed!

-Fixed some bugs where General would teleport out of the arena when doing his teleportation attack in later rounds.

-Fixed a bug where some of the Beast’s spit was flying straight up in the sky, never to return.
